Valley Rovers were defeated on a score line of Valley Rovers 1-05 to Mayfield 2-09 in the Tom Creedon Cup Semi-Final play in Cloughduv Wednesday night under lights. Valley Rovers started very brightly and aided by a slight wind raced into a 1-04 to 0-02 lead after 20 minutes. However Valleys conceded a penalty just before half time which was duly converted and then a point from play which left the score line at half time Valley Rovers 1-04 to Mayfield 1-02. The start of the second half was a very tight affair with very little scoring but after 45 minutes Mayfield had fought back to leave the scores level at 1-05 to 1-05. In the latter stages of the game Mayfield's superior fitness began to show and they added 4 more points before their goalkeeper produced a super save to deny  substitute Tadgh Fitzgerald what looked like a certain goal. In the dying seconds of the game Mayfield scored a second goal to leave the final score line of Valley Rover 1-05 to Mayfield 2-09, a scoreline which is slightly unfair on this young Valley Rovers team.
